Is coconut water nice?: When I was footloose and fancy-free, I - TopicsExpress

Is coconut water nice?: When I was footloose and fancy-free, I went to a couple of places where drinking coconut water was the most natural thing in the world. On Brazilian beaches, vendors simply bored a hole in a coconut and stuck a straw in. In the Pacific, people popped out to a street stall to get a coconut (opened up with a machete) for breakfast. Sounds idyllic, doesn’t it? Coconut water – do you like the taste? But not everyone likes it. I was warned, before drinking it, that it would taste something like water with aspirin dissolved in it. That’s a fairly specific taste, and perhaps influenced my feelings – but it’s true to say that it did, somewhat. A little bit of research on the internet quickly indicates that those who absolutely love coconut water are pretty much balanced by those who can’t stand it (and their comments are unrepeatable). So – if you’re among the group who have the Brazilian/Pacific coconut-water-loving gene – take a look at our range of coconut water. We can help you! Coconut water is the clear liquid found inside young, green coconuts. It’s remarkably high in potassium and other minerals, enhancing the body’s ability to rehydrate (hence its popularity as a sports or energy drink and also as a hangover cure)! While it contains some calories, it has way fewer than other ‘soft’ drinks, as well as low levels of fat and carbohydrates, and is rich in antioxidants. If you like the taste of it, it’s a truly fantastic, healthy drink, with claims made for it that include boosting effective digestion, regulating body temperature and lowering blood pressure. Not all coconut waters are the same, or taste the same. We stock three varieties, all organic. Click here to see our range. Biona coconut water (Bio Coco) is available in a 300ml can and is naturally sweet. Biona say the following about it: ‘one of the purest, most nutritious drinks available…a natural isotonic with an impressively high electrolyte content… contains more potassium than two bananas…enables rehydration quicker than regular drinking water, which does not contain electrolytes… a great rehydrating drink for sporting people or simply for those who like to remain hydrated throughout the day, in a totally natural way.’ Tiana coconut water 350ml can: this too is pure coconut water. Testers say that it has a slight coconutty taste, and is clean-tasting and refreshing. Vita Coco: 1ltr tetra-pak of coconut water: perfect for those of you who know you like it, and who get through a lot! You can mix coconut water with other juices, of course, to make a thoroughly refreshing drink. Take a look at our range of fruit juices to see what appeals. (Mixing it with rum or fruit liquers is also apparently very popular!) Don’t mistake coconut water for coconut milk, or cream, or any of our other coconut products.
