() MWDs and CWDs work alongside one another bringing life-saving capability to the fight against terrorism providing an unmatched level of protection for our troops and civilians overseas and at home. What types of jobs do we have? While most of the jobs are the same between MWDs and CWDs, there are some differences as well. The below are the most common descriptions but is not all inclusive. Can you tell from the pictures what each dogs speciality was? Which one is an MWD or CWD or ????? (not an MWD or CWD) I bet youre going to get a couple right off. BOL! CWDs Explosive Detection Dog - EDD Narcotics Detection Dog - NDD Patrol & Explosive Detection Dog - PEDD Patrol & Narcotic Detection Dog - PNDD Improvised Explosive Detection Dog - IDD Tactical Explosive Detection Dog - TEDD Mine Detection Dog - MDD MWDs Explosive Detector Dog - EDD Narcotics Drug) Detector Dog - EDD (DDD) Patrol & Explosive Detector Dog - PEDD Patrol & Narcotic (Drug) Detector Dog - PNDD (PDDD) Specialized Search Dog - SSD (works off leash & commands given by hand signals or small microphones) Combat Tracker Dog - CTD (tracks the person that planted an explosive device after the EDD locates it) When not using our noses to sniff out danger, we also provide some laughter and comfort to the troops. Did you know CWDs became widely utilized when OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) and OEF (Operation Enduring Freedom) started? Why? A dog’s ability of a dog to sniff out explosives supersedes even the most advanced technology there is today (Puffing chest out proudly!) and the Military didnt have enough dogs for the demand over there so they turned to the private sector.
