Is guitar a hobby to you? Are you thinking big enough? What made you first pick up a guitar? Did you want a weekend hobby? Did you want to be a rockstar? Did you want something you could share with friends? What ever the answer is, I want to challenge you to think bigger. I want you to use your imagination and think about what you can do with this asset you are nurturing with continual practice. Im going to make a small leap here and say that nearly all of us, given the chance, would make guitar a full time occupation if money were no object. If you dont think its for you, dont dismiss the idea too quickly! You are here, so Im guessing you have an interest in music and have chosen to learn the guitar. You have made a commitment to learning the instrument and may have already put in years of dedicated practice. What does that mean? It means on a fundamental level, you want to express yourself creatively. You have just started to let that show through guitar. What could this full time occupation Im speaking of look like? This is where you have to use your imagination. For me, I have started this blog, it is the smallest, tiniest thing you could do, but I have committed to putting out publicly on a regular basis. This is my way of starting something, of building a platform that I can later utilise with something bigger. Its not always as black and white as are you in a band? Be creative in your thinking, how could you start to build a following? If I considered guitar as just a hobby, if I dismissed it as nothing more than that, I would never have started a blog, I would never have started paying a guitar teacher, I would definitely not practice as much as I do. So my challenge to you today is to be honest with yourself. What do you want do with your passion for music? I want you to disregard all the constraints of everyday life for a moment, and think bigger than you ever have before. Find your big goal, and then double it. Now write that down.
