Or is it sick? who knows...but Think in terms of the cognitive dynamism of animals that fully explore 3d space like Birds (consider the intelligence of a Corvid or Parrot for example)....then realize that Fish are the Birds of the Ocean and that they have been flying in that Ocean since the Devonian epoch. Ill save you the google search, that was an age before the Carboniferous (ie before there were plants and trees on land)... around 420 million years ago. Devonian is known as the age of the fishes as it is the earliest fossil record for fish. Oh and add in the fact that many species can see electric and magnetic energy...now try and figure out how different their cognitive qualia space can be from us 2D living (we were evolved to navigate surfaces not volumes)...unless we are flying planes but we werent evolved to fly. My recent exploration of cognition toward the purpose of creating artificial versions of it on various non biological substrates leave me convinced that there is a lot more complexity in the minds of what we wrote off as simple animals long ago than we can possibly (literally) imagine.
