Is it ever going to get to the point that people attempting trips like this are going to be required by authorities to put up bonds in the event of rescues, given the risk involved in long-distance open water trips? I was just reading about one kayaker planning a Croatian trip who was told no by authorities because of the freighter risk. Could they put controls on a trip like this? Should they? Unassisted is a great claim to make. Is it realistic?
