Is it possible that we actually commit a great sin against God -- - TopicsExpress

Is it possible that we actually commit a great sin against God -- breaking His heart by doing something he literally hates -- when we celebrate Christmas? Deuteronomy 12:30-32 Be careful not to be ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same.” You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods. See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it. There is a common line of thought that, although Christmas has its origins among pagan traditions, its okay to use those traditions because they have been redeemed. The above scripture directly contradicts that doctrine. Is the Christmas tree an idol? Consider Jeremiah chapter 10: Hear what the Lord says to you, people of Israel. This is what the Lord says: “Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens, though the nations are terrified by them. For the practices of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten (a stand to) it with hammer and nails so it will not totter. Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk.” Another common comment is that it isnt possible to know when Jesus was actually born. The following video also uses scripture to debunk that doctrine. And before you try to argue that its all okay because your heart these traditions is different, perhaps it would be wise to consider the words of Jeremiah once again: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. Jer. 17:9 Just one question here. God instructs us in multiple places throughout his word to Be holy for I am holy. How are you being holy by practicing pagan traditions ... the same traditions celebrated by non-believers around the world? 1 Peter 1:13-16 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
