Is it right to brag upon ourselves? What does the Bible say - TopicsExpress

Is it right to brag upon ourselves? What does the Bible say about it? The sin of bragging is dealt with in the scriptures time and again. In the Bible, the word brag does not appear. Instead, the scriptures use the words boast and boasting. And, for a person to boast of himself is something God frowns upon. Just look at the following passage of scripture in which God speaks about sin and sinners. Notice how boasters are listed along with the wickedest of men. 2 Tim. 3:1-5 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, BOASTERS, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. The Word Of God speaks about the last days in which we now live. They are perilous times, in which men love themselves and possesions, more than others and far more than God. In the case of boaster, he is someone who thinks more of himself than others. This is a sin, and something that God hates. In fact, in Philippians 2:3, we are commanded not to be haughty and high minded, rather: ...in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. If you study the scriptures, you shall find time and again that this is something God hates. For he wills people to trust Him and brag upon Him, rather than bragging upon themselves and their own strength. Bragging or Boasting on ones self, or ones possessions, ones abilities, ones accomplishments, leads to them being puffed up with PRIDE, and in many cases exalting SELF, something which keeps us from humbling under the mighty hand of God. In the same book, The Bible, different passage, God says they are of their father the Devil (in vs And how odd, that in Job chapter 41 and verse 34 we are told that Leviathan (or Satan) is the KING over all the children of Pride. The sin of boasting, then, is not only a damnable sin which not only exalts sinners and downgrades the Saviour, but it is a sin which can also lead people to denying the power of Christ.. To compare against the powerlessness of SELF.. According to the Bible, we are not to boast, period. We should rather brag on Jesus. For boasting oftentimes leads us to thinking we are something we are not. It makes us think we are better than others or more important. And it can even lead a person to HELL, if he is so used to bragging upon himself that he thinks he is good enough to get to heaven without Jesus Christ. Or too good to listen to the TRUTH accused with being JUDGED.. That leads us to this important question: Are you a bragger? If you are guilty of boasting on your SELF, your car, your job, your kids, your home, your church, your money, your 20 inches, what you got, your own good works, or something youve done for God, WITHOUT giving GOD all the glory, but storing it up for YOU. Why not repent right now? If the apostle Paul were here today, Im sure hed be sickened by what he sees in these modern day times, in which people are busy boasting of themselves rather than bragging on the goodness of Jesus. # Today I Am Deleting All The Folks On My Timeline Boasting (ALWAYS) But (NEVER) About God.... # Dismissed
