Is meekness being a pushover? No. There is meekness lived out by Christ. He outsmarted, outwitted, out flanked his enemies, and he stood up to and chastised the pharisees verbally. He cast people out of the temple with a whip. He was no pushover. He didn’t back down from a fight. But he was meek. Moses wasnt a pushover either, but he was “the meekest man on earth.” Meekness has to do with an attitude that is not proud or lifted up. Those who are meek relate to others in humility. Those who reject the Lord have their reward now. There is no future for them. It is the meek who will inherit the earth. There is no future for those who deny the Lord and reject meekness. The meek and the righteous are the same. They are both waiting for the Lord. The promised land was just the starting point. The promise was bigger than that. The whole world was to be a temple. The problem with the Tower of Babel was that they were not having dominion over the world, spreading God’s temple. The promise to Abraham was never just for a strip of land, it is much bigger than just the land of Israel. The meek inheriting the earth is consistent with the Genesis promise. It’s more than just about a strip of land. It’s about the whole world. The promise is fulfilled when we inherit the earth.
