Is there an ongoing investigation of the Nicholas County Hospital - TopicsExpress

Is there an ongoing investigation of the Nicholas County Hospital and its board members by officials with the Internal Revenue Service? Hospital CEO Sandy Bailey said she could “neither confirm nor deny” that and IRS investigation was ongoing. Although the local Nicholas County Hospital board met Jan. 23 at 2 pm, at the Nicholas County Health Department, the Carlisle Mercury News Editor was not allowed to sit in the meeting and he and others were told the meeting was “not a public meeting” and that the board was a “non-profit, private entity.” When the news editor asked how the meeting could be “closed”, as it was being held at a public building and the board consisted of at least one elected official, Magistrate Steve Hamilton, who was a representative of the Nicholas County Fiscal Court, the news editor was asked repeatedly to leave before the meeting was ever called to order. The news editor left without incident. Other private citizens were also not allowed in the meeting, although some county officials were allowed. Questions, about identifying board members and inquiries about an Internal Revenue Investigation, which multiple sources close to the hospital have said is investigating due to hospital employees not being paid any federal withholding tax in several weeks, were left unanswered. As we continue to field calls from concerned citizens, hospital employees and community business leaders, about the status of the hospital and the depth of an IRS investigation we can only say that we will continue to try to provide accurate information but that is contingent upon members of the hospital board and/or county officials who may or may not comment for their own reasons. We continue to seek answers to the many questions community members have.
