Is there any sense in building new universities when the existing institutions are grossly underfunded? The Jonathan administration seems to have been deluded with the idea of undertaking projects just in the name of doing something. The mere proliferation of universities across the country has not and cannot improve the standard of education in Nigeria, now or later. Unfortunately,some sympathisers of the govermnent are making a heavy weather of the policy even when it is a know fact that the newly established institutions are not at par with the old premier universities in terms of aesthetic design or intellectual capacity but instead of revamping our dying heritage the President is erroneously laying the bricks of some other schools out of sheer exuberance or misplacement of priorities. Come 2030, only God knows the number of unemployable graduates these universities would have turned out.
