Is this the voice of progressivism? One of my issues with the modern progressive movement is the endorsement or tolerance of this sort of mean spirited sophistry. Though a minority for sure, views like the one below (commonly seen during the Iraq war- Joel Stein being a famous example), are one of the reasons our country is so divided. There are a surprising number of issues in which there can be common ground between most average Rs and Ds- but this line of thinking dredges out an unbridgeable chasm between the two. So the question is- how prevalent is such a view on the left? Just a crazy few academics, journalists, and Manhattanites?
