Is this you? Part 3 So yesterday I posted about carbohydrate - TopicsExpress

Is this you? Part 3 So yesterday I posted about carbohydrate staples and insulin spikes and how this leads to weight gain. So I wanted to tie this all together by mentioning breakfast and cortisol. Most people have tried the "no carbs after 5pm approach". If you have, you have been doing it wrong! Cortisol is a stress hormone, released at its highest first thing in the morning. When in a healthy rhythm, we use cortisol to mobilize fuels and therefore burn fat. And so, the mornings are our best time of day for burning fat. Insulin suppresses cortisol and therefore loading up on some cereal or toast in the morning because you will "burn it off the rest of the day" is not the best strategy for health or fat loss. A high protein and good fat breakfast with some veg thrown in for fibre is ideal way to maintain fat loss potential. Having some carbohydrates in the evening, particularly if you exercise in the evenings is the ideal time to eat them. They may help to reduce cortisol if you tend to be more highly strung and struggle with sleep. There is a time when more carbohydrates are needed in the morning. Ill write another post about this later... Happy Friday!
