Is time travel possible? At this point pretty much everything - TopicsExpress

Is time travel possible? At this point pretty much everything is just idle speculation of what fits within current theory and what doesnt. Wormholes have never been observed and may be impossible for reasons we dont fully understand yet, but are always cited as a way to travel through time. Black holes are cited as a way to travel through time, either by being whirled around a spinning one near the event horizon or by entering the event horizon where our time dimension becomes a dimension of space and the radial space dimension becomes a dimension of time. But again, this is just physicists having fun with the equations they are familiar with. There is one possibility that I would want to add to the list: A quantum impossibility of moving at the speed of light. Any time quantum mechanics and either general or special relativity have collided in the past, Quantum has always been right and relativity always wrong. Always. So, space and time are almost certainly quantized. Einsteins equations aere approximations that work at a very large scale, but even at a very large scale a truly quantum description of the universe would be more accurate. This could lead to a couple of possibilities. First, given whatever quantum formulation proves to be true, a lot of the impossibilities that we find in the theory of relativity could simply vanish in the new quantum math. Second, it could be impossible to travel exactly at the speed of light, given the size of a quantum unit of space and the length of a quantum unit of time. If the speed of light were not a ratio of integers of the plank length and the plank time, then you could never travel at the speed of light simply because the universe doesnt have that gear in its transmission. Einsteins equations say a lot of things about what would happen if you travelled faster than light, but they do not say it is impossible. They only say that it is impossible to go exactly the speed of light if you have a nonzero rest mass. So, if the quantized universe forbids you from travelling at the speed of light, you can simply accelerate past the speed of light and go on your way, travelling through space and time in all sorts of crazy ways. space/21675-time-travel.html?cmpid=514630_20140616_25874166
