Isaiah 42:6-7 6 I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; 7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. What is righteousness? It is having right actions, right attitudes, and right relationships – all based on our right standing with God. When He forgives us, takes away our sin, and restores us as His children, He not only gives us His righteousness, but He also empowers us to demonstrate it to others. Part of Christ’s mission on earth was to demonstrate God’s righteousness and to be a light to all nations. Through Christ, all people have the opportunity to share in His mission. God calls us to be servants to His Son, demonstrating God’s righteousness and bringing His light. What a rare privilege to help the Messiah fulfill His mission! But we must seek His righteousness before we demonstrate it to others, and let His light shine in us before we can be lights ourselves.
