For some time weve been reading articles in the news papers about how our tertiary education is becoming diluted with many Institutions of Higher Learning coming up every day-supposedly to respond to the High population growth. The question people are asking is How can i b sure that the Quality hasnt been compromised?? Unfortunately there are fears that our education quality has actually deteriorated so much that even EMPLOYERS ARE PARTICULAR ABOUT THE INSTITUTION YOU ATTENDED, WHICH YEAR YOU GRADUATED & INSIST ON CROSS-CHECKING THE TRANSCRIPTS. This is coz there some Institution which are serious about maintaining quality (and they are the most difficult to join) and employers are seeking graduates from these places. They need to know your graduation year to make sure you graduated b4 Education Quality started deteriorating and the Trancripts will tell them if you studied all the necessary Modules/Units. What every one is agreeing on is the fact that Population is growing at a very fast rate than rate of building our Tertiary institutions. Unfortunately some greedy Business pple have taken advantage of Kenyans hunger for Education and are now offering courses whose Quality is Questionable. Even Ugandan President Mu7 once jokingly asked what will happen to pple studying courses like Conflict Resolution when conflicts end? Some1 also wondered Education is like politics nowadays whereby we have BRIEF CASE TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS available for the Highest Bidder!! This process has led to INSTITUTIONS OFFERING MORE THEORETICAL STUDIES INSTEAD OF PRACTICAL ONES and this is what is worrying employers coz the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS GRADUATES COMING OUT OF THESE INSTITUTIONS ARE FULL OF THEORY BUT KNOW NOTHING ABOUT PRACTICAL WORK. This means that if they employ them, theyll have to spend money/time training them which theyll tell you aint good business. Infact those FEW DEGREE GRADUATES EMPLOYED, HAVE TO BE TRAINED BY TRADE TEST GRADUATES on Practical aspect of the job. FORTUNATELY, Y.Ps are the only institutions STILL OFFERING HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION (PRACTICAL), so chagua vizuri.
