Islam, a pledge to Allah Submitting to Islam actually involves making a contract with Allah. According to the contract, Muslims are required to put their total faith in Allah and follow His messenger’s teachings. In other words, Muslims are required to give up their own power of reasoning and judgment. Their own principles and moralities become irrelevant and get replaced by a new set of Islamic ethos. In return, Allah promises paradise. The Quran refers to this "deal" or "ahd" (Arabic for agreement, word of honor or contract) in many verses, like these: Quran 13:20 Those who fulfill the covenant of Allah and fail not in their plighted word; Quran 16:91 Fulfill the Covenant of Allah when ye have entered into it, and break not your oaths after ye have confirmed them; indeed ye have made Allah your surety; for Allah knoweth all that ye do. Quran 33:23 Among the Believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah: of them some have completed their vow (to the extreme), and some (still) wait: but they have never changed (their determination) in the least: Quran 48:10 Verily those who plight their fealty to thee do no less than plight their fealty to Allah: the Hand of Allah is over their hands: then any one who violates his oath, does so to the harm of his own soul, and any one who fulfills what he has covenanted with Allah,- Allah will soon grant him a great Reward. The contract with Allah becomes binding once Muslims say the ‘shahada’ statement: “I witness there is no God but Allah and that Mohammed is His messenger”. The moderates, by being Muslims, have signed that agreement with Allah and are aware of their commitments. As humans, they are tempted to live in moderation, which they know would be a breach of their pledge to Allah. They try not to let their awareness of their accumulating sins to spoil their peace, but their guilt-feeling always lurks on the back of their mind. Unless they see the light of freedom, one day they may return to the true Islam and learn that Allah created their brains to guide them to His path, not to question His wisdom. Their power of reasoning becomes paralyzed and their conscience numbed to question any commands of Islam and its practices. Indeed, this is what is demanded by Allah, saying: Quran 33:36 It is not fitting for a Believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by Allah and His Messenger to have any option about their decision: if any one disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he is indeed on a clearly wrong Path.
