Generally translated as legal charity, it consists of giving 2,5% of ones annual revenu and savings after paying all its obligations and debts. The zakat purifies the money but also the soul from greed and lust. The recipients of the zakat are the poor, destitute, disinherited, indebted for a good cause, those inclined to Islam, the liberation of muslim slaves and the one fighting to defend Islam. If every worker were to pay the zakat, poverty would probably be eradicated from the globe and God knows best.
