Isnt it funny how each animal who occupies your household has a certain and specific purpose? The thing is, you dont really, really know what it is until he or she is gone. Like my little Maggie, gone but a mere few days and even tho I have other cats and dogs, her purpose here was demonstrated by helping me fall asleep every single night for the last 15 years. Her job, if you will, was to purr next to my ear and make pizza out of my hair (yes, while she drooled) and gently lull me off to slumberland. Now that shes gone, I lay here fully awake at night with no monotonous droning (my other cats merely use me as a cushion). I miss her deeply. None of the others are able to replicate that inimitable cat-curl between my bent arm and my cheek. I love the uniqueness of animals every day in every way. Sometimes I need to vocalize my sorrow and you guys are my sounding boards. Shut up.
