Isn’t life funny? Most of you know that my oldest daughter Shelby got married oh 6 weeks or so ago. Monique and I were fortunate enough to have her and Chase stay in Carthage for the rest of the summer. Most of you also know that my youngest daughter Morgan is getting married in November. A lot of things are changing at the Baugh house. Some of the changes aren’t so bad. My son-in-law, and my future son-in-law are two of the finest young men that I have ever met. Chase has been around so long, and I’m so found of him. If I thought of him as any more of a son than I do…. It would creep me out that he has married my daughter. If anyone were to meet Drew and not like him, well I would at the very least have to question their character and their heart. I truly, truly believe that these two men were pre-ordained by God to marry my daughters, I couldn’t imagine any one loving someone more than they love my little girls. Earlier today Monique and Morgan drove Shelby back to St. Louis, and as I sit in this empty house I can’t help but think of the twenty-one plus years of memories within its walls and tearfully come to the realization that a chapter in my life has just closed. We were so lucky that Shelby lived at home her entire four years at MSSU. Even when she left for UMSL a little over a year ago we still had our baby girl Morgan at home. In fact she stayed at home for her first year at MSSU as well. Now that one has started her new and exciting life with her husband and the other will soon do the same, with heavy heart I know that it will never be the same again. Honestly there is a part of me that looks forward to getting to know my wife again as just my friend and companion… I look forward to week-end get aways, trips to St. Louis to see Shelby and Chase. Trips to … well where ever Drew’s career leads us to visit him and Morgan. But If I were to close my eyes right now……It’s the summer of 2003, both my little girls are playing softball at the same time on different fields. Me coaching one while Monique cheers on the other, keeping me updated on the score, and keeping all 3 three of us hydrated with Gatorade. My Mom in the stands telling my Dad “ you know everyone in the ball park heard you call that umpire a blind dumbass ” as if it would quiet him down. I’m not gonna lie I would go back in a heartbeat…. Softball, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, watching my babies grow up as fierce competitors. Young parents, enjoy it while you can. It’s gone in the blink of an eye.
