Isometrics are hugely under-used...except for a few popular movements where they’re probably over-used (front lever, back lever, etc.) Here I’m doing a variation of ‘Frenchies’ – isometric pauses within each rep used to build strength in weaker ranges of motion. Very commonly used by climbers to build ‘lock off strength.’ Try incorporating 2x3 reps of three isometric pauses on both concentric and eccentric portions of each rep as finishers. Oh, also pause at the top and bottom of each rep. You’ll have to decrease the load by 30-50% but I guarantee you, it will expose MASSIVE weaknesses in certain ranges of motion on probably every exercise or movement you’re doing. Doing this will negate the Stretch Shortening Cycle (SSC), and increase Time Under Tension (TUT), both of which are MASSIVE stimuli for increasing strength. These can be ego crushers, but keep in mind it’s not about the external load, but about the physiological stimuli you’re creating for the body.
