#IspirationKE via Mzalendo Halisi Maryann Mugo According to the youth factbook 2010 and assuming a population of 44Million Kenyans; 42% of Kenyans are btn 0-14yrs old. 35% are between 15-34yrs and 15% are between 35-54yrs. Assuming 54yrs is the ceiling for the actively productive age, then it means only 50% of Kenyans are within the productive bracket since 50% (35%+15%) of Kenyans are between 15-54yrs. Out of the 35% (btn 15-34yrs which we call youth) 70% of them are jobless. This means that; our country Kenya, depends roughly on an actively productive population of 26% which lies between the 15-54year. My biggest worry is the 42% of the population of children between 0-14yrs. These are dependants. If the current rate of desperation and joblessness in half (24% of the 50%) of the actively productive population (youth) is not resolved then we might have a bulge of desperate youth that the countrys productivity may not support in the near future. if this makes sense to you then you realize why this country needs you and I to do what we must to support our social, economic and political growth. A single entity for example the government with a GDP of 37Billion USD cannot solve this problem. We all need to do our part and grow this country. If you are an entrepreneur; you must create job opportunities, if you are an environmentalist; you must conserve and teach others to conserve the environment, a teacher must not relent in his/her work, a parent must teach a child to queue and wait his/her turn, pastors should stop asking for guns and instead use their bibles to reform the lifestyle of their youthful congregants and all people must start giving back to the society; in kind, finances, counsel, mentorship, expertise; sow those seeds and let something grow. Let us stop being allergic to solving problems. Kenya needs you and I, otherwise the future will judge us harshly. May God bless my country and the people of my motherland.
