Israel has officially refused to cooperate with the United Nations - TopicsExpress

Israel has officially refused to cooperate with the United Nations Human Rights Council’s investigation into its crimes during the 50-day war against the Gaza Strip. Some Palestinians say the reason behind Israel’s move is because Tel Aviv fears the outcome of the probe. So the investigation team was denied entry into Israel after arriving in the Jordanian capital Amman. Tel Aviv claims that the commission chaired by Canadian academic William Schabas is not a fact-finding panel. It claims the results of the investigation are pre-determined. Israel also accuses Schabas of anti-Israeli bias. Meanwhile, Human rights organizations say that the mass destruction in Gaza clearly points to Israel’s war crimes. The Palestinians say that even if the inquiry team is unable to visit the Gaza Strip given Israel’s refusal and the situation in Egypt, it should still go on with its investigation as there are several other means to collect evidence. At the end of the day, Israel has never cooperated with any UN fact-finding committees, and has always hampered the mission of any UN inquiry. The Palestinians believe that also this time, Israel will challenge any international commission to investigate Israeli war on Gaza, knowing that what it had committed were war crimes.
