Israel vs. Hamas Look, people can argue forever regarding the wisdom of establishing the nation of Israel back in 1948--66 years ago. The fact is, Israel does exist, one cannot change history. Yes, the establishment of Israel re-awakened and intensified the hatred of the Jews by the various Arab states--hatred that has existed for literally thousands of years. No, war ultimately settles nothing. War is horrific! Innocent people, not just combatants, die hideous deaths. It breaks every compassionate persons heart to witness pictures of what we have euphemistically come to label collateral damage. The inhumanity of man is never more evident than in times of war. Fact is though, Israel is a sovereign nation. They have a right to exist and to defend themselves. As has always been the case, Hamas started this most recent dust up. Yes, the civilian Palestinians have suffered grievously but the fault lies entirely at the feet of the Hamas fighters and their backers, those exporters of hate, the wackos in Iran. Had hundreds of rockets not been indiscriminately fired on Israel this war would not be taking place. Hamas and Iran want civilian casualties to be high in order to continue to fuel hatred among the Palestinians towards the Jews of Israel. The entire Middle East is a cesspool of hatred. As I have said before, it is stupid of us to sit back and criticize our best friends in the region for defending themselves. What a horrible situation this is but what can we do? Sadly, the answer is nothing.
