Israels ambassadör talar på ett pro-Gaza möte i Stockholm! I have listened to the previous dignitaries addressing this meeting. Before you leave, I would like to wrap things up and give you some food for thought to bring home and consider: • The vast majority of you have left the Middle East in order to enjoy the possibility to have this demonstration and the other benefits of democracy. For this purpose, Israel is one of the countries you could theoretically have fled to, since the Arab citizens of Israel are the only ones in the Middle East enjoying full democratic rights, including the right to support or oppose their country´s actions as they choose. • In Israel like in Sweden and all full-fledged democracies, we observe the norms and implement the morals of free and open societies. Have you asked yourselves why, then, Israel is engaged in all these terrible deeds which you have just ascribed to us so colurfully? • The reason is that we are surrounded by the very same countries and regimes which you fled from – including terrorist organizations which you have escaped but which Israel cannot and would not. • Since the Jewish communities are tiny, and most importantly – intimidated by the violent and aggressive verbal and sometimes physical assaults on those defending Israel, or simply on Jews - only your voices will be heard. • It seems that you are doing a great job here in Sweden and in so many other places in dragging public opinion, but also politicians and journalists to a very one-sided stand on the conflict. However, this is – again – a very short-sighted accomplishment as it only serves to entrench and encourage Hamas and the extremist organizations – the foremost victims of which will always be the Palestinian people and your fellow brothers in the countries you fled in a rush. • You know better than others that Hamas is fully committed to Israel´s destruction and discards any possibility for any kind of dialogue – direct or indirect – with Israel and yet you support its conduct. • If it is only numbers and arithmetic of casualties which bring you out into the street, how come you show no eagerness to take to the streets in solidarity with the vastly superior numbers of victims in the conflicts currently raging in Syria and Iraq and so many other places? The answer apparently lies in the fact you demonstrate mainly against Israel and it is not the real concern for human life and suffering. • You probably know that Israel has suffered thousands of missiles incessantly fired from Gaza against its civilians. We have not seen you demonstrate then or voice your concern, to try to prevent this fire so that Israel would not have to defend itself, and you would save the bother and be here now. • I assume that like many, you have collected money for Gaza. Now it should be obvious what this money has been going to: missiles and tunnels and, as we have seen, a life in luxury for the leaders of the Hamas in Gaza or in 5-star hotels in the Gulf. While these very leaders direct their terror operations from safe hiding places they send women and children to their deaths in Gaza in order to trigger the very protests which we now see across the world and of which you are a part. By being here, you support terrorism and create future unpleasant life to your own brothers. • Hamas carries the full responsibility for the current escalation and the tragic loss of lives which it entails. Since it is also part of a Palestinian unity government - if you would like to protest, you had much better direct your steps to the Palestinian representation in Stockholm. I do assume that by now you will all have realized that the remarks related here is my imaginary answer to a rally which I will most probably never be able to address. The truth of the matter is that even here in peaceful Sweden such a trial to address these demonstrators would probably lead even to physical violence. This is a reflection in miniature of the realities which Israel has to face in the Middle East on a constant basis.
