Issue number 2. Weve talked about the skewed mentality and approach of the Nigerian educational institutions yesterday. But the truth is, this issue is just like a vicious cycle. The people we are blaming now got their mentality from somewhere, and thats from the preexisting mentality we all share. When they get to that leadership position and manifest their belief, we start feeling the heat. Now in our country, the major reason why many of us go to school is to get certificates that will make us employable. Only a handful go to school because we want to acquire knowledge that will propel our vision and passion. And thats why an average Nigerian parents wants his/her child to study medicine or nursing even if the child dreams of nothing close to that. Ouh! Have you wondered why the cut off marks for these courses are high? There was this classmate of mine in my former school. Very creative artistically. In fact, shes amazing! But she chose a medical course because her mother wanted her to. We usually talked when we were in school and I encourage her to follow her passion.... Well, I dont blame our parents because thats what sells now. The economy isnt encouraging, so everyone is trying to save his head. But Ive recently realized theres nothing wrong with Nigerian economy but theres everything wrong with those controlling the economy! Who says theres no money in Nigeria? With all the billions that are reportedly stolen each minute? How can a single soul steal BILLIONS? Ha! Well, before we point accusing fingers, we need to understand that we all are suffering from the same syndrome which is?????? .......to be continued.
