Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following ASSF fisheries on Monday 15 July 2013. The following report is for the week ending Sunday, 14 July 2103. SWANSWATER (Stirling) It was a quiet week at Swanswater, both for anglers and for fish, with the hot, bright weather making conditions better for barbecues and sunbathing than for fishing! The water running into the rearing tanks from relatively deep in the main pond was sitting at 20oC so the surface temperature must have been quite a bit higher. Consequently the fish were deep in the water and either a bright lure fished slowly or a buzzer fished more or less static, were the best ways to tempt them out; other patterns proving attractive included Diawl Bach, Bloodworm, Viva and Damsel nymphs. The boats were generally doing better than the bank as they were giving access to deeper water. The water is still very clear with no evidence of algae showing. Amongst the best bags this week were Alan Kirkham, Glasgow, 5 for 15lb 8oz including a Blue, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 4 for 10lb including 2 Blues, Keith Lewis, South Queensferry, 3 for 10b 2oz including 4lb 8oz Tiger and a Blue and Frank Turner, Alloa, in two visits, 7 for 20lb 8oz including 4 Blues. Dennis Raynor, Stirling, 3 Blues for 8lb from the Millpond, plus 2 returned, Jim Kettings, 2 Blues for 7lb 8oz, Charles Devine, Stirling, 2 for 6lb including a Blue, plus 4 returned and William Campbell, Aberdeen 4lb 4oz Blue from the Millpond. Keir Hardie, Stirling, returned 14 on one of the new sporting tickets and Brian Lockie, Stirling, returned 5 from his float tube on a sporting ticket. FRANDY (Gleneagles) Jim Watson & Dave Gonsales from Auchtermuchty kept 11 fish weighing 25lb, Norman Thomson & Ron Bakie, Tillicoultry 7 fish weighing 15lb, Alastair MacMillan, Comrie & Brian Thorne, Crook of Devon 7 for 16lb and George Keith & Tom Langdon from Dunfermline took 7 fish weighing 14lb and released a further 7. Kenny MacMillan from Perth kept 4 fish weighing 8lb 8oz, Ian Gibson & Jock McKenzie, Edinburgh, 5 fish weighing 12lb, James Barrett & Scott Barrett, Stanley, 5 fish for 10lb 8oz and Ian Skilling & Robert McLay from Shotts fishing with a sporting ticket caught and released 15. On the club front Royal Perth Golfing Society A/C kept 5 fish weighing 12lb, Heriot A/C kept 8 fish weighing 18lb 8oz and released a further 26, Cove & Kilcreggan A/C 7 fish for 18lb 8oz and the Dollar A/C took 6 fish weighing 13lb 8oz. Crown Fly Fishers fishing with sporting tickets on the bank caught and released 9, Perth ExServicemen’s A/C kept 7 fish weighing 17lb 10oz and Aberdour A/A kept 38 fish weighing 89lb. The favourite flies and lures used last week included the Muddler, Kate McLaren, CDC Hoppers, Diawl Bach and the Yellow Dancer whilst the best fishing areas were on the north shore, dam wall and the north shore of the Dog-Leg. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) At last there is a real summer to enjoy, which has brought out a lot of anglers. Unfortunately the very hot spell is now beginning to make the trout somewhat fickle. Catches on the Boathouse Pool have not been great this week but the fish taken have been around the 4lbs 8oz mark. Small lures are the best bet as many fish are following the flies but refusing to take them. Burnside, the deepest pool has fished the best. Buzzers below a bung/dry fly have accounted for most fish. Ian Barlow had 10 rainbows on catch and release. Saul Birse landed and returned a beautifully conditioned brownie estimated at 2lbs 12oz. Bankside Pool is again evidencing a large amount of surface activity but the fish are generally very difficult to tempt. However, Bruce and Jim Martin conjured up 31 fish between them on catch and release. Most fish fell to a delicately placed Black Hopper. Water-levels are now low in the Woodside Pool and the fish are becoming less easy to catch. The best day was Wednesday when 22 anglers took a total of 47 fish weighing 62lbs. Green Powerbait again proved the most successful bait, although a couple of the bigger fish fell to small Mepps type spinners. MARKLE (East Lothian) Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh had a couple of great sessions using a Damsel Nymph on both to take fish of 14lbs, 11lbs 8oz and 10lbs 3oz. The Fishers Tackle Shop from Penicuik had a good outing catching 11 fish for 28lbs 8oz and the Mayfield Inn AC from Dalkeith took 15 fish for 30lbs. Jack Hay from Haddington had a fish of 8lbs on a Buzzer, Jack Stevenson, Ormiston, had 6 on a Montana, B Hynd, Edinburgh, 8 on the Diawl Bach, John Gordon, Perth, 15 on the Bibio and E Sandlands, Perth, also used a Bibio to catch and release 10. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) Despite last week being the hottest in the records of the fishery the anglers still managed to catch a few fish. The water has of course warmed up but fortunately the springs are keeping the level up as there is no water coming down the burn and this has resulted in anglers having to switch tactics and fish deep and snow. Stan Guzik from Sauchie took a brace weighing 6lbs on Dries, Fay McLeod, Perth 1 fish weighing 4lbs on a Snatcher, Jim Coghlan, Auchterarder, 2 fish for 6lbson the Ally McCoist and David Lewis from Larbert took 3 fish for 9lbs 4oz on the Montana Nymph and Buzzers. Stuart Clark from Kilsyth had 3 for 8lbs 4oz on an Ally McCoist, Robert Young, Kilsyth, 3 for 8lbs and John Patrick from Kilsyth used a Silver Ally to take 3 fish for 10lbs 8oz. Last but not least David Laird from Bannockburn took 3 fish for 10lbs on a Diawl Bach.
