Issued by the Office of the Chairperson International League of Peoples Struggle 13 July 2014 ILPS condemns massive Israeli zionist terrorism, supports Palestian peoples struggle for liberation The International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) condemns the latest atrocities being perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people and expresses unqualified support to the right of the Palestinian people to free themselves from decades-long Zionist occupation of their lands. At the same time, the ILPS condemns the Western powers led by the US for their shameless hypocrisy and support for the terrorist Zionist regime in Israel. The present Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip since five days ago has already resulted in nearly 200 civilian deaths, hundreds of civilians wounded, houses, mosques, hospitals, schools, the fuel and water systems and other civilian structures destroyed by bombs. A high proportion of those being killed by Israeli bombing and strafing are children. Hundreds of Palestinian are being illegally arrested, detained and tortured. The Zionist aggressors are poised to kill more Palestinians by cowardly bombing preparatory to an expected invasion of the Gaza Strip. The last time the Zionists bombed and invaded Gaza in 2008, they killed at least 1,100 Palestinians and boasted that Palestinians could inflict on them a death casualty of only 13. Right now, they are gleefully proclaiming that their Iron Dome anti-missile system has prevented the rockets fired by the Palestinians from killing a single Israeli. But even then, they are hell-bent on destroying Palestinian lives and properties on a massive scale. The long-standing crime of the Israeli Zionists is the violent seizure and occupation of most of Palestine, forcing the Palestinians to be crammed in small enclaves, like the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and subjected to gross human rights violations. In the Gaza Strip, 1.5 million Palestinians are packed into a small pace of 350 square kilometers. The obvious strategy of Israel is to render impossible the Palestinian state by shrinking its territories with the use of the apartheid wall, Israeli settlements and violent attacks, cutting them off from the sea and forcing the population to leave. The pretext for the recent Israeli atrocities is the kidnapping and killing of three Israeli teenagers in a settlement built on stolen Palestinian lands. Without presenting any proof, Netanyahu immediately put the blame on Hamas and promised to exact revenge. Hamas has denied any involvement in the deaths of the Israeli settlers. Netanyahu has ignored even the UN call for him to present evidence. Some have hinted at the possibility that the killing of the three settlers could have been a false flag attack carried out by the Zionists themselves to justify the latest aggression by Israel. Given the events of the recent past in which false flag attacks have been carried out to justify many of the punitive measures related to the so-called war on terror and the wars of aggression against sovereign countries, such a notion is not entirely far-fetched. Last April, Fatah and Hamas signed an agreement to end their long-running rivalry and form a unity government. This has triggered alarm bells among the Zionists and their rabid supporters in Washington. The Zionists and their Western supporters are deathly afraid at the prospect of a unified Palestinian resistance against Israeli occupation. They would do everything to sabotage any attempt at such unity. The Western corporate media as usual has played its assigned role of justifying every Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, even blaming the victims of Israeli atrocities for their sufferings. They give wide coverage and hours and hours of media time for the mourning relatives of the three settlers while virtually ignoring the brutal killing and burning of a Palestinian teenager by Israeli settlers. The boundless hypocrisy of Western politicians are utterly condemnable. Obama denounced the death of the three Israeli teenagers as a “senseless act of terror against innocent youth” (one of the three was a soldier in the Israeli army). Cameron tried to outdo Obama by saying: “This was an appalling and inexcusable act of terror perpetrated against young teenagers. Britain will stand with Israel as it seeks to bring to justice those responsible.” Has Obama and Cameron ever condemned the killing of a Palestinian teenager or child in such a vehement manner? The Western media’s highly-biased reporting is equally condemnable. Big corporate media outlets such as the BBC devoted headlines and extensive reports to the deaths of the three Israeli settlers that included heart-rending interviews with mourning relatives. One major media outlet did a live coverage of the funerals for more than nine hours. This has never happened for Palestinian victims of Israeli terror. In contrast, there was complete silence from Western politicians when two young Palestinians aged 16 and 17 were shot dead by Israeli security forces in May. The BBC made a brief mention of the killings but it was quick to present the viewpoint of the Israeli military. It reported that a human rights group had released a video showing two Palestinian teenagers being shot by Israeli soldiers but in the same breath it gave prominence to the claim of the Israeli military that the video had been edited, and to the latter’s assertion that no live ammunition was used during the said incident. The ugly truth that does not get published in the Western media according to one report is that “over the last 13 years, on average, one Palestinian child has been killed by Israel every 3 days. Since the outbreak of the second Intifada in September 2000, 1,523 Palestinian children have been killed by Israeli occupation forces. Over the same time period, 129 Israeli children have been killed. Thus, the ratio of Palestinian children to Israeli children killed is more than ten to one.” The ILPS calls on its global region committees, national chapters, member organizations, all allied forces, and all people who desire justice and peace to protest against the latest attacks and long-standing wrongs committed by the Zionist Israeli regime against the Palestinian people, and the contemptible support given to it by Western governments. The ILPS stands squarely behind the Palestinian people in their struggle to free themselves from Zionist occupation and oppression, and establish their own sovereign state.
