It Came To Pass The New King James translation of the Bible introduces historical events with the phrase it came to pass. This implies that the event being introduced happened and is now history. It has passed. It places a time element or temporary element as distinguished from an eternal element into the event. The concept of time did not always exist for God who exists before the foundation of time is eternal. And time will not always exists for eventually, as it is decreed, time shall be no more. But God introduced time with creation. And time helps us distinguish between a past, a present, and a future. It is fundamental to all creation. People, animals, things, and events come to pass. Nothing is eternal or timeless except what is in God. Time therefore compels us to deal wisely with our own beings, as well as with other people, animals, things, and events because of their temporariness. They come to pass. An awareness of the temporariness of our existence in this world should cause us to live wisely. Time is also a comfort of hope for the afflicted and sorrowful. Those who believe in Christ are assured that present temporary afflictions cannot be compared with eventual eternal glory in Christ. And weeping may last for a night but joy comes in the morning. In other words, adversities come to pass. And those with wealth are warned that treasures on earth eventually rust and rot with time and at death we must leave them behind. So wealth should be converted through charitable giving into eternal treasures. But the blessing that time brings that surpasses all is Gods covenant to take away, forgive, and forget all our sins and failures and shame of time and give us eternal life in Christ free from judgment and condemnation. So as another year in time is now to pass let us thank God we have lived to see the various experiences we had with ourselves, people, animals, things, and events come to pass. Let us now look forward for the New Year with faith in God who with every new day in time deals with us with new mercies. Genesis 8:13 (KJV): “And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.” Psalms 30:4-5: “Sing praise to the LORD, you saints of His, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.” Psalms 90:12: “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18: “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 1 Peter 1:24-25: “All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the lord endures forever. Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.”
