It Doesnt Have to be Therapy to be Therapeutic: For Mental Health Clinicians Monday 15 September, 9.30am-4.30pm Presenters: Kelly McMahon & Kate Cooke This one-day workshop is for those who work directly with clients who have borderline personality disorder. This training introduces ways to have a therapeutic conversation, drawing from 3 theoretical models: Conversational Model, Mentalization, and Relationship Management. It provides a mix of learning opportunities including group discussion, experiential role plays and some didactic teaching. LEARNING GOALS: To gain knowledge in: *the features of borderline personality disorder *the difference between chronic and acute risk, and the ways to manage each *theories of attachment relating to borderline personality problems, as a way of understanding interaction patterns and how to respond *background theories, and how to put into practice in conversations with clients therapeutic stances and practices from: the Conversational Model, Mentalization, and Relationship Management • To understand some of the processes that occur in conversations between yourself and your client who has borderline problems • To recognize, understand, and monitor the emotional responses you experience when working with your client • To feel more confident and competent in how you relate to your borderline client, including: *managing risk issues in conversation *feeling your interactions have a purpose, even when not goal directed *putting into practice the stances and methods from the three models Enquiries: To training co-ordinator at Spectrum, ph (03) 8833 3050.or spectrumbpd.au
