It Hurts me a lot the way people have been maligning and insulting my Moms tribe due to Politics. The Tongas are some of the most welcoming people you will find, go to the Biggest Towns in Southern Province ( Mazabuka, Monze, Choma, Livingstone) and you will find that the major Language that is spoken their is not even Tonga but Nyanja which is not from the province. No Tonga will force you to learn their language, infact a lot of people who live in Southern Province leave without learning the language. Its in Southern Provinve where you will find Chiefs and Headmen who are not Tonga. Tongas just like everyother individual have a choice and Tongas voted for different parties. So why Insult Tongas? This is not fair... There are accusations that certain political Parties got 0 in certain areas. Well Im not into politics but what I know is that the majority of Zambians vote on developmental Grounds, maybe a little research is better before assuming, maybe another party or person took development there with Jobs, a Dam, a School, so many other projects and that the people were just showing appreciation. All that Im saying is that in Zambia we tend to conclude a lot of things without Facts. My Grandpa Mainza Chona was Tonga yet he gave up the presidency to Kaunda because of such sentiments, he and many thought that a Tonga at the time ruling would be devisive, he looked past personal gain and regional politics for the good of the nation, UNIP then worked hard and United the Country, so much so that despite Mr Chona being such a force in Southern Province he could not convince the people to vote for UNIP and they voted for MMD in 1991. The same Southern Province. The simple truth is everyone has got a choice, Southern Province is the home of many tribes and there are no statistics anywhere to show how a particular tribe voted, its really ignorant to call Tongas names because of politics. In Politics there are no enemies but opponents. I would also implore the authorities to make sure tribal talk becomes a serious offence among Politicians. With that said despite being really upset by some peoples posts on Facebook demeaning my moms Tribe I have chosen to Forgive them and hope that people will move on. For me, its all football.
