It Is Time for the Radio Industry to Innovate New Formats and New Thinking! Radio Info music editor/director Duane Doobie warns, “The window is closing.” In a new column posted today (3/24), the motivational trade publication strategist suggests that now is the time for radio broadcasters to start inventing new ways to present music and entertainment on the radio airwaves “if we will ever have a chance to kick-start radio back to its former position of ‘ownership’ within the pop music culture, let alone even remain in the game on any level of competitiveness over the next half-decade.” Doobie boldly states, “We see and hear way too many negative cultural references to radio these days in the larger media and public consciousness. TV commercials tout the sale of CD song collections ‘no longer played on the radio.’ Heck radio is portrayed as being so lame that even the old farts don’t think it’s hip anymore, let alone the coming of age crowd of Gen-Y. Discussion shows on the music channels and beyond regularly give voice to journalists, musicians, critics and fans further-diminishing the waning influence of radio within the pop world. They refer to the death of radio’s influence on music culture (not to mention all ends of society, with the exception of sports) with a level of certainty that treats the notion as if it were conventional wisdom. This is entirely unacceptable!” Plus some hot picks to click to drive ratings from Mat d. and the Profane Saints Gwar Jessy Lynn Martens Nico & Vinz James Arthur Tove Lo The Chainsmokers Little Mix Prince Zooey Deschanel Amanda Lear William Shatner Crosses ††† Deftones Towns Buffalo Killers The Black Keys Dan Auerbach The Black Crowes Chris Robinson Chris Lake Jareth Music Big Boi Kid Cudi Steve Wonder Gorillaz Chris Bullen - DJ/Producer The Killers Calvin HarrisIndiana Amy Rose MusicKata Hayand more...
