It all comes down to the fact that there is nothing I can do to earn my salvation, His love, His forgiveness, friendship, favor, sympathy, or some gold crown even. I must come to the end in myself and surrender to Him. He has all I want, all I need. I need saving and He is the only one who can do that! We all have come up short of the mark in even thinking about being good enough for a holy God, to get to heaven which is a holy place. Why would God want to mess up that by accepting me without wanting to find a way to wash me up, and perhaps even get me to start living in a better way. He did that by letting His Son Jesus take my place for all the reasons He cant let me into heaven. And if I believe in Jesus, the dude who takes my place for the death and hell I should get, I get a bath that makes me clean before Gods eyes from the moment I ask God to forgive me for my sins and trust that Jesus has done enough to please Him for my sin, for my whole life. I know I cant make it up to Him. But Jesus gives me something I wasnt expecting. He gives me His spirit when I pray with a humble heart these things. It is like I get one gift after another - it is like Christmas! I get His salvation and forgiveness, taken care of by His Son, and then I get His Spirit infilling me to help me to break the chains of bad habits in my life! Yeah, I know people who dont change their lives after becoming Christians. It is like either they werent getting real with God in their hearts when they prayed or they just dont feel like it is that important to live differently so they let sin still rule in their lives. They dont care if they are chained to sin. That is sad. God gives you the tools and keys to be set free, and yet you still fake it, till you make it! I choose to learn to use the keys to unlock the chains in my life and thank God each day I live in learning more about Him through bible study and just keeping my head wrapped up in positive things.
