It always amazes me to see the opinions of horse racing after a big race. I used to be a huge horse race fan....but since I am so passionate about rescue (and my Thoroughbred is a rescue off of the track at Belmont - that sold for $100k as a yearling and won every race until injured and then he was in the bargain bin....) I have since given up my interest in the sport. While the horse race industry definitely plays its greedy role in the number of slaughtered horses - the majority of euthanized/slaughtered horses are horses from private owners and lets not forget about Wyeth - -and their wonder drug Premarin --made from pregnant mare urine.....what do you think happens to all those foals?? Point your finger at the racing industry-- and rightfully so --- but dont forget to point your finger at all the other contributors as well. Think its hard to find rescue for big dogs? Try finding rescue for a horse....there just arent that many homes that have the land or can afford the expense...and just way too many horses that are in need. And think a high kill shelter is an awful place for a dog or cat to die? Take a good hard look at a horse slaughtering plant.....
