It amazing how many different ways there are to train in the gym and I am not a strength athlete anymore constantly training for maximal strength and so today I did barbell push presses which isnt a lift I do all that often anymore and to think I used to do 405 on that lift for a max and today 6 reps at 225 felt hard. I went back in time and watched this video of me doin a 340 lb log for reps in my last competition before I decided to bodybuild. The only thing I miss about those days is the training and competing against myself to get better and stronger. I have never got much enjoyment out of competing in both strongman or bodybuilding but I did it because it was a way to check my progress against myself. I live to train, not to compete and I see to many people who make these competitions their identity and there only reason for training and I think that is the wrong approach to this lifestyle. Your identity and ur self confidence cannot be based on a placing or an outcome otherwise ur gonna be miserable because ur gonna live on extreme highs and lows and what is the point, it not like this sport takes anyone anywhere unless ur the elite of the elite. Ask 90% of pro to walk into walmart and see if anyone knows who they are cause outside our cult sport nobody cares. In fact I was in Vegas last feb at a show and apparently it came to my attention I was sitting behind the men physique mr Olympia and I had no clue, all I knew was some guy in skinny jeans. so live to train, live to be better than yesterday whatever ur goal may be and that is when this sport becomes a lifestyle and u find enjoyment in the process and if u become a pro, awesome but that cant be ur only reason for doing. Bodybuild for 50 years, not 5. https://m.youtube/watch?v=l139Pb2uG-A
