It appears Arnold Schwarzenegger is still lurking out there somewhere. I know a lot of coaches and I find this article hard to believe. At one point, it states PE is little more than glorified recess. Thats just not accurate or fair. Worse yet, in grades four and below, glorified recess is all its supposed to be. Developmentally, we try to instill a joy for physical play at those ages (heaven knows theyre going to have their whole lives to learn rules, plays, stretches, and strategies). Finally, in those early years; children develop coordination at different paces depending on how much physical activity theyre exposed to outside of school, so we strive to give them opportunities to learn how their little bodies work on their own before we tell them how to use them.
