It appears to me that the years of emotional fear based indoctrination of the right wing political media machine has functioned much like a cult or religion, and one can not use facts to challenge faith. Doing so only deeply upsets people who feel their core ideology is being threatened. I would never try to talk anyone out of their religion. But we must recognize that we are dealing with one now and not a political party. It is very similar to the conservative reactionary people among the Taliban and the ISIS terrorists who want to roll back modernity to the 700s again. The conservatives in the US and UK want to just roll it back to the 1950s however but none the less they are religiously based reactionaries operating from fear and superstition ie tax cuts to the rich help the poor.
