It appears were going to have a future millage for a new $30 - TopicsExpress

It appears were going to have a future millage for a new $30 MILLION dollar jail in Grand Traverse County. That will go nicely with the other millages/taxes we continue to pay including the G.T. County Road Commission multi-MILLION dollar millage AND I would assume TCAPS will once again be pursuing MORE MONEY (even though their current millage does not expire until 2017). Just open your wallets folks. I cant quite figure it out though. They want a new jail that will have enough jail beds/space to handle their needs 20-30 years into the future. They are suggesting a 250-bed facility???? The jail claims their average inmate population was 171 last month and they are boarding OUT inmates to surrounding counties. This has been a problem for years and years. How about you think and build a 350-bed jail if you want to meet demands for the next 20-30 years? Not only that, why cant you build/engineer a jail that will last 50-60 years?? That cant be done with todays knowledge, technology and materials? Remember....If You Build It, They Will Come. With the way Traverse City is ATTRACTING the homeless street people and the creation of a PERMANENT Homeless Shelter, I would assume the jail will gain a few clients over the years as we grow our homeless population. God bless us all.
