It baffles me each time I hear the govt taking a rude and hard posture as a solution to ASUU dispute. Committing a fallacy of argumentum ad baculum which beclouds rationality is a clear display of defeat on the part of govt. Its over 4 months since the month ASUU/Govt palava. If govt thinks threat to sack lecturers is the right step to solving the education problem in Nigeria, then govt erred by waiting for 4 months before acting. The step would have been taken since August and probably schools would have resumed, students and parents may have not lost so much. But in its wisdom, govt made futile attempts to solve the problem. Now that ASUU seem to be close to calling off the strike, govt is wielding a cane. The question is, if govt is sincere about the promises, recent agreement and interested in the common man, why cant the 4 months salary be released to lecturers and part of the money for developing schools already pronounced to Nigerians be released too?. Where is the trust? Who is actually delaying the resumption of schools? Why cant govt sacrifice these two new demands? Should ASUU sacrifice the struggle for developing our schools?. Haba!, govt no try at all.
