It breaks my heart as a mother of young black boys to see so many - TopicsExpress

It breaks my heart as a mother of young black boys to see so many unarmed killings of our youth. Every time I see these stories I warn my sons again that they are not going to always be viewed as the good and honorable young men that they are. While I do not want them to be mistrustful of every police officer or individual of a different ethnicity, I want them to handle themselves wisely. Whats even more saddening is that whos to say that some of these young black boys who were killed, werent attempting to do the same. Marches only draw attention to the problem but it does not address the issues of the heart that lead humans to devalue the lives of other humans. Unfortunately, the Church, Gods chosen place to change the human heart, very seldom deal with this issue of profiling or even just addressing our underlying mistrusts based only on ethnicity. And as the church remains silent and this issue remains taboo, we leave many more innocent lives at the mercy of unresolved issues and prejudices. Ive mentioned this before about the racial incidents my children have endure while playing in our yard. Its a shame that in 2014, I find myself praying that God protects my good children, in my own yard, from men and women who mean them harm just because of the skewed perception of black people. Its so hard to help them find balance of knowing who to trust. My heart hurts for these mothers who are burying their sons, the hope of their families and communities, because of an unrealistic fear or deep-seated hatred. God knows....
