It came as a surprise to me that the one artist who sang the most of Sahirs works is Asha Bhonsle.. 220+ songs. This song has found a deep niche in my psyche.. not for any particular reason apart from the fact that it is composed in such a soft radiance with Ashas voice at her best. The beete din yaad dilate ho sung so many ways! Watching the visuals just now, I got reminded of my cousin, whose son Yatin Dang, the young asst director of Baghban, the BR Chopra film.. Dharamputra being the Yash Chopra film. Mala Sinhas looks were quite like my cousins.. and as the song unwound with Mala in tears, my thoughts went to my cousin, who lost her husband 5 years ago and then Yatin, her only child, 3 years ago.. Sahir, as a student in Ludhiana, was thrown out of the University, when he recited a sher to a female student, who then complained about him.Years later, the University invited him to commemorate him.. and he recited the same couplets that got him thrown out. https://youtube/watch?v=G4XUfQZwflQ
