It dawned on me that Vanessa and I have now been regular - TopicsExpress

It dawned on me that Vanessa and I have now been regular international travellers for exactly a decade. In that time we have been fortunate to visit countries in Africa (South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Zambia), Asia, (China, Vietnam, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia and Japan) and Europe (Italy, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium and Switzerland). The predominant influences on us spreading our wings no doubt lies in the physical separation from our country of birth, family and friends in 2009, the bounty of our adopted country, and a significant change in outlook from my personal brush with mortality in 2005 when I was diagnosed and then blessedly recovered from lymphoma. Aside from sporadic domestic holidays in the past, our international sojourn began in 2004 with a family safari to Botswana. In 2006, I was overawed by one of the most spectacular capital’s in the world - Beijing. Two years later, we visited the scenically-gifted Vietnam - where we fell in love with Halong Bay. Vanessa loved the South Island of New Zealand in 2009 - one big botanic garden, and we joined my mother in the delights of Singapore. The following year we chilled - literally - in Seoul and had an unforgettable road trip through Italy. 2011 gifted our first trip to one of my favourite countries in the world - Japan. We joined my sister and her family in Malaysia and celebrated the end of the year - and a major professional event - with another awesome trip to China - visiting Shanghai and the water town Tongli. I undertook my first solo trip in 2012, visiting Dubai and joining a school friend for an instructive visit through Incredible India. 2013 through 2014 saw our return to Europe, exploring Central and Western Europe. We spent January in Paris, which rivalled Beijing in its impression on me. These two capital’s along with Kyoto are my favourite three cities! This decade has seen incredible highs, but also the sad passing of both my parents. I dedicate this decade of travel to the memory of both my parents, but also to the grace of God having given me more time on our lovely planet, the loving companionship of my wife and the astounding educational and career achievements of my son.
