It disappoints me to no end to see all of the hateful comments and tweets around the internet towards the Chief, Meteorologist Joe Veres, and my second family WENY TV News. When severe weather strikes, especially a tornado warning, it is vital that the public is notified. The ticker on the bottom of the screen may look nice, but it does not do justice what Joe can do on air to notify the Twin Tiers. I have had the wonderful opportunity to intern under Joe, and I know he likes his sports teams just as much as anyone else (Go Yankees!); however there was an intimate danger to viewers in the Twin Tiers and the World Cup had to take a backseat. According to the FCC, Federal Communications Commission, Local broadcasters are obligated, by FCC rules, to make necessary local emergency announcements, such as weather warnings, school closings, chemical spills, large fires, earthquake, floods, or tornado warnings.” Keep up the great work Chief! Like you told me, you have to have thick skin in this business.
