It does appear that we will have Northwest Flow flake potential - TopicsExpress

It does appear that we will have Northwest Flow flake potential late tonight into early tomorrow morning around WNC as the backside of the front passes through. The greatest chance will be in the higher mountains, but I believe that if you stay up late enough you will see a few flakes in the valleys also. I have to give credit to Karen Wynne at WLOS for being the first to bring my attention to the possibility (I had been focused on the severe threat for MS/AL yesterday), and I agree with her that a decent chance exists. I am not bullish on much if any accumulation, but it will be nice to see a few flakes in the air after the snow drought we have been in recently. The cold for next week is still very much on my mind with the most recent GFS showing a high for the AVL airport Thursday of 22 degrees. Some mountain locations will struggle to reach 15 degrees on Thursday, so this will be a shock to the system. We appear to be getting into a more favorable pattern for snowfall in the next few weeks so I expect WNC to have a few more shots at flakes. Stay tuned as I will update later this afternoon on the cold and potential flakes that are headed our way!
