It feels to me the idiotic triumph of superhero/comic book movies, as much in service to the code as ever, and inane mainstream news in service to the state is getting more pervasive, and that people now think extraordinary, or even just common sense spiritual, emotional or intellectual behaviour is less realistic than extraordinary physical abilities like leaping from building to building or single-handedly setting things right by defeating all the defined enemies with self-righteous kick-boxing and blessed Glocks. It accounts for the weird, somewhat frightening popularity of Humans of New York, to take one example. Its like weve been buried in an avalanche of irrelevance, and the nice, rounded story of strangers in some other place, with all their rough edges sanded smooth, interest us too easily. Not one single complete thought of mine can fit in the space of a tweet. Perhaps it is both a sign of how much we crave what has become almost impossible.
