It flows in my veins It shines from my face The color red cannot affect it It is independent and full of rain It makes the unusual seem usual Yet it is always new It is full of rose scent and jasmine It ripples in waves It cares like the human voice It bestows itself generously upon the underprivileged It avoids lightning It cools the areas not consumed by fire It protects all prophecy It uses threes It batters the strongholds of the indifferent With slow measured, shocking force It conceals ancient coins, yet reveals them It is sometimes poorly It brings its mighty throes to bear upon The open hands of fair haired maidens Dusky gazelles with pomegranates And all manner of moonlight It speaks before speaking It loves after loving It follows itself It cannot help but love you It cannot help but love you I guide it, respectfully, help it Up the stairs, let it lean upon my body I heal it, with my thoughts, hopes and dreams I teach it again, tenderness, how to grow old… Before I laugh I ask it to join me Before I eat I show it what’s on my plate After I enjoy a story I recount the story to it After I find love I tell it all about her It once made a round-sort of unusual elegance Filled it with sapphires, emeralds and diamonds, Offered it to me, I saved it for a friend… When I finally gave it, my friend was Worthy and praised me for it… Small wonder I have another round-sort, again! I remind it, smile. I remind it, sunshine, rain, neither affect your voice. I tangle the wind into its braided sorrows, to leaven them. It flows in my veins. It flows in my veins. ` ` Stanley Gemmell 10/3/2013
