Wait…fat can help us maintain our weight? In one word: exactly. Fat is not something to avoid. For starters, it’s essential for normal growth and development. Dietary fat also provides energy, protects our organs, maintains cell membranes, and helps the body absorb and process nutrients. Even better, fat helps the body burn fat, and often if you see a professional for help with your diet, they will recommend that about a third of any weight-loss plan’s calories come from dietary fat. But W.A.I.T. before you grab a deep-fried hot dog, pizza or cream bun, consider this: not all fatty foods are the same and not all fats will help you. The foods you choose can mean the difference between a trim body and one plagued with obesity and disease. Good healthy Food Fat helps you in a few good ways. 1) Fat burns fat - it acts as a fuel to give you energy. With out it we become lethargic, tired and we can burn that old unwanted fat around our belly, thighs and butt. Without the new healthy fat we are eating our body simply cant burn that old fat efficiently. 2) Fat keeps you full for longer - this is because it in a nutrient that takes longer to digest than other nutrients. This means you keep that fuller feeling for longer and are more likely to stick to any diets you decide to do. 3) Fat makes you happy - seriously, Id struggle to find many people who honestly feel good on exclusively low-fat food for long periods of time. Where as if someone is eating their appropriate amount of omega-3 fatty acids, they will feel happier as it can boost serotonin levels in the brain, helps improve the mood, increase motivation, and keep us from devouring carbs like they are going out of fashion. 4) Fat builds muscle - Eating good fats along with an effective exercise program can increase muscle mass. Increasing muscle mass is vital when increasing metabolism activity and burning calories. They all go together really, dont they. 5) Fat makes food better for you - Nutrients such as vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble, this means that the body can’t absorb them without fat. So you need fat to absorb them and you need them to stay healthy. If your body isn’t absorbing these nutrients properly, that can lead to vitamin deficiencies and bring on dry skin, blindness, brittle bones, muscle pains, and abnormal blood clotting. So there you go folks, its okay to eat good fat and forget about all those low fat fads. Next time you are loading up on those healthy veges and salad, double check youve got some essential oils on there as well (i.e - nuts, olive oils etc… oily fish).
