It had dawned in me recently that I have been repressing emotions - TopicsExpress

It had dawned in me recently that I have been repressing emotions in order to keep a positive standing in the social and public spheres. I am someone who has come a long way through meditation and other exercises, but I condemn myself whenever I have feelings that are not positive or healthy in the social eye. A book that I have been reading(which has instantly become one of my favorites) has given me a lot more insight into this issue both socially and personally. Note: language- a vital element of our ability to conceptualize our experiences. This is to say that our ability to integrate the implications of a given experience. Here is a quote that I thought was very substantial: with languages such as office politics, all sadness being signs of illness. The fallacy of masculine emotional strength and feminine emotional hysteria, dont cry in public, and keep your problems to yourself, it is as if we are all expected to be business professional robots while in the public sphere. Even just these few examples are clear evidence of a cultural conditioning that supports a repugnant self-perpetuating system of repression and illness. Because of an upbringing in this type of social environment, most of us live unconsciously avoiding, suppressing, or downright denying the truth of who we are and of our divine emotional creativity-James W Jesso Decomposing the Shadow( Lessons from the Psilocybin Mushroom) If you are into psychology or psychedelics as a way of healing, I urge you to read this book. Stop judging people who are going through an emotional tough time or are lashing out. Dont be afraid of who you are. Denying this is literally only going to make you sick emotionally and mentally. Instead, learn of emotive-psychosynthesis and surrender to these feelings( in a non passive way) and let them flow through you on their psychospiritual cycle!
