It has always been my experience that parents can help their kids overcome poor teaching MUCH more easily than teachers can help their students overcome poor parenting. If you and your childs other parent (ideally your spouse - a novel concept these days in many parts of society) arent setting and enforcing boundaries for behavior at home, then you are undermining not just their own education, but also stealing educational time from other students while teachers try to fill your parenting gap. (Youre also giving the legitimately bad teachers an easy cop-out for their own poor performance, but thats a different conversation.)
