It has been a busy busy week for our little ones. Ellanie was able to get her broviac line taken out. That is the line she had surgically put in when she was so sick. We are so thankful that it lasted for over three months but are even more thankful that she was finally ready to get it OUT!! Ellanie is also ready now to be fed through her gastrostomy tube. That means she has only one feeding tube rather than two. This weekend she will work on getting stronger so hopefully she will be ready to get off of her c-pap permanently sometime next week. Malachi is doing well. He used to be a tiny little squirt. Now he has finally caught up to his sister in weight. They are both about 6lbs 9oz!! He has been having a lot of trouble learning to eat. They did a swallow study on him last week and found that he is a pretty dangerous eater. He doesnt always keep his airway protected which means he is at risk for aspirating while he eats. He also has a very weak suck which makes him burn way too many calories while he eats. Because of those findings it was decided that he would also need a gastrostomy tube. He doesnt have a surgery scheduled yet but we are hoping he will be able to get on the schedule for sometime early next week. If he responds well to the surgery he will hopefully get on the fast track to come home. Possibly a week and a half to two weeks post-op. Were excited.... REALLY excited. :)
