It has been a great few days at home, Army. We were lucky enough to have some helping hands this weekend that helped make Matts transition a breeze. Matt is loving the comforts of home, has been sleeping like a champ and still continues to put in miles. He is allowed to walk at the mall before opening which we tried on Friday morning; it was great exercise and warm inside. Today we took a brisk walk outside to enjoy the sunshine and get out of the house. I was really afraid things were going to be much tougher, taking care of Matt at home, but he is such a good patient and is doing so well that he isnt facing a lot of troubles that a majority of transplant patients face. His biggest battle is with fatigue; its tough building a brand new immune system. But any mouth sores he has had have subsided and he is regaining his appetite. He had his first clinic visit on Friday where his counts continued to climb as expected and his doctor claimed that he is way ahead of the curve for transplant patients. We are not taking these days for granted because we know they can change in an instant but are so happy with where he is. I was trained in home IV care for Matts magnesium drips; Matt is a champion mag waster so he requires a 4 hour drip 6 days a week. They deliver the supplies right to the house and an RN walked me through everything in person. That also means Matt has a new pole... A skinny little thing that doesnt require a pump. We are taking name ideas now :) We continue to be impressed with his care and with his Oregon Health Plan insurance. We brought home $2k with of prescriptions from the pharmacy on Wednesday and only paid $3. Three. Dollars. I dont know what the answer is to the healthcare system but I know its broken. We continue to be grateful. Now we remain vigil for signs of Graph Vs Host (GVH), a condition where Matts new and old cells dont get along. Otherwise he eats, plays games, sleeps and continues to kick some major Leukemia ass!
